Race against time!
This week the children all took part in a competitive and exciting activity that involves a lot of cheering on and speed. The teachers explain and demonstrate to them that the task was to try and get the cup to the other end of the table whilst it is resting on top of a long strip of ribbon.
This fun engagement requires 2 pairs of children that compete against each other, meaning there was some concentration needed for them to successfully pull the ribbon steadily enough so the cup won’t fall over, but instead the cup would get drawn to the opposite end of the table smoothly.
The children communicates very well together, cheering on their friends to go “quicker” or “slower”. When reading the situation and how the game is going, the children can see which pair is in the lead and who’s behind, giving them an insight of different positioning like 1st place and 2nd place.
This practical activity encourages their physical and pse development, working along their peers and cooperating with them to get the task done together, whilst exercising their fine motor skills by the pinching and pulling of the strings. The children loves the ideas of competition and having the opportunity to race against each other and embrace excitement, creating a positive atmosphere!
