Shape Puzzles

This week the toddlers engaged in a mathematical activity as a group that involved puzzles pieces for them to place together. There were 5 different coloured shapes presented on paper plates, and then each of them were cut in half, resulting to 10 half pieces place out for the children to match together. The shapes ranged from square, rectangle, triangle, circle and a heart all coloured differing from each other.

To begin with, the task was demonstrated to the children to get a better understanding of the objective, which was finding the matching half and they done excellent. As a group the children portrayed excellent patience and team work by identifying the shapes they may see and what they think it looks like. The colours was a big help to most of them because it had a more bold visual of recognition for them and what to look out for. For example, the circle shape was yellow and when it was time to match the both semi circles together, they was quick to find the other yellow half.

The children cooperated really well as a group and attempted to help each other out by pointing out the half they see their peers holding and pointing out the familiar colours they know. This encourages their colour recognition, shape identifying and more. Well done toddlers
