For St. Patrick’s Day, the children in preschool enjoyed a variety of activities that helped them explore the significance of the holiday in a fun and interactive way. We set up a sensory tray filled with green salt, clovers, and a pot of gold. The children eagerly searched for hidden coins, which encouraged problem-solving, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. While exploring the tray, they also practiced mark-making using paintbrushes, experimenting with different strokes and textures in the green salt.
In addition to the sensory play, we explored the colours of the Irish flag. The children identified and discussed the meaning of green, white, and orange, linking it back to the theme of St. Patrick’s Day. Throughout the activities, they showed curiosity, creativity, and teamwork, sharing their discoveries and ideas with their peers. This hands-on approach not only made learning about the holiday enjoyable but also helped develop early writing, colour recognition, and observational skills.
