For our first week back in preschool we spoke about the different things we wanted to learn and do this year. The children cut out stars on shiny paper and used their handwriting skills and hand over hand to write out their wishes for the year having discussions during this about all the things they desired this year. After this we went into the garden and used different resources, including skipping ropes, a bowl, guttering and the foam bricks to build a well to make a wishing well and help our wishes come true. To make the well the children hooked the skipping ropes to the bowl which was then filled with water, we then used the foam bricks to build around it the bowl and towered them in a circle to form the shape. The children inserted their stars into a space into the brick wall planting them into the wishing well, during this time the children enjoyed talking about how their wishes could come true, including “practicing lots of writing”, “reading more books about dinosaurs” and “ cooking with mummy”. After they had placed their stars the children took their coins, rubbed it together and made their wish, dropping it into the wishing well to seal the activity together. We then tried to use the ropes to pull on the bowl to see if we could pull the bowl up to retrieve our coins.
In this activity the children showed amazing teamwork skills and communication, discussing all their desires for the year and showing great partnership with each other to build the well and navigate how tall and wide the well would be. Well done preschool you did amazing with this and you should be so proud.
