Throughout October, we have been learning about black History Month. We learned about Alma Thomas who was an African-American artist. The Ladybirds used cut up tissue paper to create their own abstract art inspired by Alma Thomas. The butterflies spent time learning Mae Jemison, who was the first African-American woman to travel into Space! The Butterflies watched a short clip of Mae Jemison and also read a story about Mae's life. Finally, the Butterflies then carefully created their own rockets! The children in Grasshoppers have been exploring the importance of African beads. African beads are historical and have many significances in Culture. The children have been busy developing their fine motor skills by threading the beads onto string to make African inspired jewellery.
