Exploring States: Water paints

The Grasshoppers explored the idea of solids and liquids through a paint activity. They started with dry paint palettes, and the grasshoppers noticed right away how the paint was hard and crumbly, and could not be used. With pipettes, they carefully added drops of water to the paint. As the water mixed in, the dry paint slowly turned into a smooth, colorful liquid. The grasshoppers all got very excited as we watched the transformation from a solid to a liquid! They talked about the changes they were seeing, choosing colours, and used their fine motor muscles working with every squeeze of the pipette. Once the paint was ready, The grasshoppers used the bricks as their canvas and made some amazing art. Some painted pictures, others made patterns or just enjoyed the feeling of painting on a different surface.
