This week, the Grasshoppers explored pumpkins through some exciting risky play! Using wooden and plastic pegs, the children experimented with pinning them into the pumpkins’ tough outer skin.
They discovered how much pressure was needed to push the pegs in, building strength and fine motor skills along the way. Some children noticed the difference between the wooden and plastic pegs, comparing textures and how easily each type went into the pumpkin. This activity encouraged problem-solving, persistence, and safe risk-taking. The children loved the sensory experience of handling the pumpkins’ cool, firm surface and seeing the bright orange flesh underneath.
