Measuring and Estimating

Today, some children in the horses group took part in an engaging discussion about measuring and estimating using various classroom objects. I chose two children of different heights and asked them to find a friend to outline on a piece of paper. Once they had completed the outlines, the children explored various objects around the room to compare their sizes against the figures they had drawn.

To start, they used Unifix cubes. They found it required 64 cubes to match Sidney’s height, whereas only 46 cubes were needed for Isla-Rose. We then continued the activity with additional items, counting pencils; it took 8 pencils to match Sidney’s height and 7 for Isla-Rose.

Well done horses for a wonderful activity.
