Shapes and Shadows

Today, the Blaze class explored the projector and learned about its operation. Their curiosity was evident as they examined the device, discussing its function and predicting what might occur once it was powered on. This activity fostered an early understanding of technology and the concept of cause and effect.

Next, they created delightful shape artwork. Using a variety of toys and objects, they traced around different shapes, such as circles, squares, and rectangles. They also traced their own hands, their friends' hands, and even Beth’s hand, which helped them observe variations in size and shape.

As the shapes and shadows were projected onto the wall, they were captivated by how the shadows changed when the objects were moved closer or further away. This prompted mathematical thinking as they compared sizes, identified shapes, and employed positional language such as big, small, near, far, up, and down.
